In a significant move marking a milestone in its aviation operations, Air India has commenced the booking of its first-ever international service featuring the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 aircraft. Set to debut on May 1st, the airline will operate the A350 daily on the high-demand Delhi-Dubai route, introducing passengers to a new level of comfort and efficiency.
Departing from the bustling Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 20:45 local time, the inaugural flight, numbered AI995, will touch down in Dubai (DXB) at 22:45 before making its return journey as AI996 at 00:16 local time and land back in Delhi at 04:45 hrs.
The Airbus A350 has been making its mark on the domestic circuit since January 2024, with Air India strategically deploying the aircraft on routes connecting Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Initially, the aircraft underwent rigorous operational testing and familiarization exercises, ensuring the readiness of cockpit crews and service personnel for the demands of international operations.
Traditionally, new aircraft types undergo domestic operations to accrue sufficient flight hours and crew experience before embarking on international flights. Air India adheres to this practice, typically required to complete around 100 sectors before being cleared for international service.
With this milestone reached, Air India is poised to enhance its international offerings, albeit initially on a regional scale. The decision to commence international operations on the Delhi-Dubai route reflects a strategic approach to managing the A350’s entry into service effectively, balancing operational considerations with passenger demand.
The transition from the Boeing 787-8 to the Airbus A350-900 on the Delhi-Dubai route underscores Air India’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and elevating the travel experience for its customers. The A350-900 boasts a three-class cabin configuration, featuring 28 private business suites with full-flat beds, 24 premium economy seats offering extra legroom and enhanced amenities, and 264 economy seats, catering to a diverse range of passenger preferences.
As Air India prepares to unveil its inaugural international service with the Airbus A350, passengers can anticipate a seamless blend of cutting-edge technology, comfort, and world-class service, reaffirming the airline’s position as a premier carrier in the global aviation landscape.
