Air India Flying Academy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India Limited, has received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India, to conduct flying training courses in India.

The approval, issued under FTO Approval No. 02/2026, authorises the academy to undertake flying training operations from its approved main base at Air India Flying Academy, Amravati Airport, Amravati, Maharashtra – 444701.

Five-Year DGCA Approval

According to the Certificate of Approval issued by the DGCA, the academy’s approval is effective from 30 October 2026 and remains valid until 29 October 2031, subject to continued compliance with applicable aviation regulations and approved training and procedure manuals.

Comprehensive Training Scope

The DGCA approval covers a broad range of aeroplane training programmes and associated qualifications, including:

  • Student Pilot Licence (SPL)
  • Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
  • Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
  • Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s (Restricted) Licence
  • Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s Licence
  • Single-engine aircraft training
  • Multi-engine aircraft training
  • Simulator Flight Training Device (SFTD) training
  • Instructor Rating

This scope provides the academy with regulatory approval to conduct training across multiple stages of pilot development, from initial pilot training through advanced qualifications and instructor training.

Air India’s Entry into the Flying Training Sector

The approval represents an important development in Air India’s broader aviation ecosystem, extending its presence beyond airline operations into pilot training.

India’s aviation sector continues to expand, with airlines requiring a sustained pipeline of qualified flight crew. The establishment of an airline-backed flying training academy adds another institutional participant to the country’s pilot training infrastructure.

With Amravati Airport designated as its main operational base, Air India Flying Academy now has the regulatory approval to undertake the training activities specified in its Certificate of Approval.
