Air India has unveiled a refreshed inflight dining concept that celebrates the richness and diversity of Indian cuisine, positioning food as a central pillar of its ongoing service transformation.
Drawing inspiration from India’s vast culinary heritage, the airline’s latest offering brings together regional flavours from across the country—ranging from the royal kitchens of Awadh to the vibrant tastes of South India—while blending them with contemporary global influences.
A Culinary Journey at 35,000 Feet
The new dining experience has been curated to reflect India’s cultural depth through food, offering passengers an immersive gastronomic journey onboard. Signature dishes include regionally inspired meals such as Awadhi paneer preparations, Malabari curries, and South Indian tiffin-style platters, alongside international selections like Japanese teppanyaki and Mediterranean cuisine.
By integrating both traditional Indian recipes and globally inspired dishes, the airline aims to cater to a wide spectrum of travellers while preserving an authentic Indian identity in the skies.
Elevated Experience Across Cabin Classes
Air India has designed the culinary programme to enhance passenger experience across all cabin classes. First and Business Class travellers can expect multi-course gourmet meals, curated beverage pairings, and premium presentation, while Premium Economy and Economy passengers benefit from upgraded meal trays featuring balanced, regionally inspired options.
The airline is also offering an extensive range of special meals, including vegan, gluten-free, and health-conscious options, ensuring inclusivity for diverse dietary preferences.
Sustainability and Local Sourcing at the Core
A key highlight of the initiative is its focus on sustainability. Air India is emphasising the use of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to support Indian farmers while reducing food miles. The airline has also introduced eco-friendly practices such as compostable packaging, reduced single-use plastics, and onboard waste segregation.
Part of a Larger Transformation Strategy
This culinary revamp forms part of Air India’s broader transformation under the Tata Group, which includes fleet modernisation, upgraded cabins, enhanced lounges, and improved service delivery across touchpoints.
According to the airline, the initiative is not just about food, but about storytelling; using cuisine as a way to showcase India’s heritage to a global audience while elevating the overall passenger experience.
Looking Ahead
The rollout of the new menu is already underway across key international routes and will be progressively extended across the airline’s global network and domestic operations.
As competition intensifies in the full-service segment, Air India’s focus on culturally rooted yet globally appealing inflight dining reflects a broader shift toward experiential travel; where the journey itself becomes as memorable as the destination.
