• Singapore Airlines CEO Mr Goh Choon Phong wins the Excellence in Leadership Award
• Scoot named 2024 Value Airline of the Year
The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has won two accolades at Air Transport World (ATW) magazine’s prestigious annual Airline Industry Achievement Awards.
Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer of SIA, has been honoured with the Excellence in Leadership Award for 2024. Scoot, SIA’s low-cost subsidiary, has been named Value Airline of the Year. This year’s two accolades come after ATW named Singapore Airlines Airline of the Year in 2023.
The ATW Airline Industry Achievement Awards are among the most coveted in the air transport industry, with the recipients selected by a panel of editors and analysts from Aviation Week Network’s ATW, CAPA, and Routes.
Ms Karen Walker, Editor-in-Chief, Air Transport World, said:
“Singapore Airlines and its low-cost carrier, Scoot, are highly regarded airlines that set global standards for customer service, innovation, operational performance, and taking care of their employees. That takes visionary leadership, so I am delighted we are recognising Mr Goh Choon Phong as the 2024 ATW Excellence in Leadership recipient and Scoot as the 2024 ATW Value Airline of the Year. Both are very well deserved.”
The Excellence in Leadership Award not only recognises Mr Goh’s contributions to the SIA Group, but also acknowledges the strong recovery of Singapore Airlines and Scoot from the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, both carriers were first off the blocks as borders reopened, and successfully retained their leadership positions in the airline industry.
SIA has continued to demonstrate its commitment to a world-class end-to-end customer experience by investing in its network, product and service offerings, as well as its digital capabilities. It has also deepened its strategic presence in India as part of its multi-hub strategy through the impending merger of Air India and Vistara. This will give it a 25.1% stake in an enlarged Air India Group when completed.
Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines said:
“I would like to thank our customers, as well as our shareholders and partners, for their strong support, which we never take for granted. We will continue to invest in and enhance the travel experience of our customers, and work hard to retain our industry-leading position. I accept this accolade on behalf of everyone in the SIA Group. Navigating the challenges brought about by the pandemic has been a difficult journey. Our success is a testament to the exceptional Singapore Airlines family, whose sacrifices, perseverance, and dedication allowed us to emerge stronger than before.”
Scoot’s recognition as Value Airline of The Year exemplifies its commitment to ensure a seamless and unique travel experience for its customers. The airline continues to take delivery of new aircraft, expand its network, maintain a trained workforce, and invest in technology to strengthen its infrastructure, drive productivity, and improve the customer experience. This has resulted in record passenger revenue, load factors, and profits for Scoot.
Mr Leslie Thng, Chief Executive Officer, Scoot, said:
“We are honoured to be recognised by ATW as the 2024 Value Airline of the Year. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Scoot family, especially after several challenging years due to the pandemic. We continue to seek opportunities and push boundaries as we embark on our next phase of growth. We will also remain agile and innovative as we leverage synergies with Singapore Airlines to maintain our position as the leading low-cost carrier in the region.”
