In a significant development for the burgeoning aviation hub in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have officially designated airport codes for the Ayodhya Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport.

The IATA code assigned to the airport is ‘AYJ,’ while the ICAO code is ‘VEAY.’ These codes are not just arbitrary combinations of letters; they play a crucial role as symbolic identifiers for airports globally, seamlessly connecting the city to the world of international air travel.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the first phase of the international airport would be operational by December 15. The airport, named the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport, is designed to accommodate a range of aircraft, including Boeing 737, Airbus 319, and Airbus 320.

To facilitate this ambitious project, the state government has allocated 821 acres of land, and construction is progressing rapidly under the vigilant supervision of the Airport Authority of India.

In the initial phase, a sprawling 65,000-square-foot terminal is under construction, boasting a capacity to handle 2-3 flights per hour. Simultaneously, a 2,200-meter runway is being developed to accommodate the specified aircraft. Future plans include an extension of the runway to 3,700 meters in the second phase, enabling the seamless landing of wide-bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 777 directly in Ayodhya. The expanded terminal in the second phase is anticipated to cover an extensive area of 5 lakh square feet.

The Ayodhya Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport is poised to become a pivotal gateway, connecting the historic city to international destinations. The inclusion of IATA and ICAO codes marks a significant milestone in the airport’s journey towards global recognition and seamless integration into the worldwide air travel network.

As the project progresses, travelers and aviation enthusiasts can now familiarize themselves with the IATA code ‘AYJ’ and ICAO code ‘VEAY,’ symbolic representations of Ayodhya’s emergence as a prominent international aviation hub.
