Air India, the renowned airline under the stewardship of the Tata Group, has unveiled a captivating new aircraft livery, marking a significant step forward in the realm of air travel aesthetics and passenger experience. The much-anticipated event took place in the vibrant heart of New Delhi.
Draped in an enchanting palette of deep red, aubergine, and gold highlights, Air India’s fresh livery design is more than just a visual upgrade. The design pays homage to the airline’s cultural roots, with a chakra-inspired pattern that radiates a sense of unity and harmony. A particularly striking element of this revitalized brand identity is the bespoke ‘Air India Sans’ font, meticulously crafted to imbue the airline’s communications with an elegant blend of confidence and warmth, thereby positioning Air India as a premium, inclusive, and accessible carrier.
Campbell Wilson, the dynamic CEO & MD of Air India, articulated the significance of this transformation, stating,
“Our transformative new brand reflects an ambition to make Air India a world-class airline serving guests from around the globe, and that represents a new India proudly on the global stage. The new Air India is bold, confident, and vibrant, but also warm and deeply rooted in its rich history and traditions that make Indian hospitality a global benchmark for service standards.”

Excitingly, travelers can expect to encounter the new logo and design concept on their journey from December 2023, when Air India’s inaugural Airbus A350, adorned in the stunning new livery, joins the airline’s fleet.
Beyond the purely aesthetic, Air India is channeling substantial investments into enhancing the guest experience, fortifying its position as the preferred airline for those traveling to, from, and within India. The carrier has executed historic purchase agreements, amounting to the acquisition of 470 aircraft from industry giants Airbus and Boeing, at a total value of US$70 billion, based on published list prices. These new additions to the fleet are scheduled to commence deliveries in November of this year.

The transformation of Air India’s fleet is already in progress, as the airline secures leases and purchases for 20 widebody aircraft this year alone. Notably, a dedicated US$400 million initiative is set to launch in mid-2024, focusing on a comprehensive refurbishment of the interiors of the airline’s legacy fleet comprising 43 widebody aircraft. This endeavor will culminate in the installation of cutting-edge, ergonomic seating in every cabin, state-of-the-art inflight entertainment systems, and the integration of inflight Wi-Fi internet connectivity. By March 2024, a significant 33% of the airline’s widebody fleet will boast these upgrades, and over the subsequent two-and-a-half years, the entire long-haul fleet will undergo this rejuvenating metamorphosis.
Air India’s audacious step toward an enhanced passenger experience, coupled with an evocative livery that reflects the nation’s ethos, signals a fresh era in air travel. As Air India’s wings are unfurled in this dynamic new chapter, travelers can eagerly anticipate a journey that harmonizes modernity with tradition and luxury with accessibility.
