Air India has announced the launch of two new international routes connecting India with Vietnam and Japan, further strengthening the airline’s growing presence across Asia as it continues its network expansion strategy.

The Tata Group-owned carrier will introduce non-stop flights between Delhi and Hanoi from 1 May 2026, while Mumbai–Tokyo (Haneda) services will commence on 15 June 2026. These additions are part of Air India’s broader efforts to improve connectivity between India and key markets in Southeast and East Asia.

Delhi–Hanoi: Air India’s Second Gateway in Vietnam

The new Delhi–Hanoi service will operate five times a week, making Hanoi Air India’s second destination in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City, where the airline already operates daily flights.

The route will be operated using the Airbus A320neo aircraft, offering a three-class configuration including Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. The service is expected to add more than 7,000 seats per month between India and Vietnam.

According to the airline, the dual-city connectivity in Vietnam will enable passengers to plan open-jaw itineraries, allowing travellers to arrive in one city and depart from another, such as entering via Hanoi and exiting through Ho Chi Minh City.

The flights will also provide seamless connections through Air India’s hub in Delhi to several domestic destinations across India as well as international routes to Europe and the United Kingdom.

Mumbai–Tokyo Haneda: Boosting Japan Connectivity

Air India will also strengthen its connectivity with Japan through a new Mumbai–Tokyo (Haneda) route, which will operate four times per week using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

The service will complement Air India’s existing Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda) flights, which were recently increased to daily operations and upgraded with Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring new cabin interiors and Premium Economy seating.

Passengers travelling via Tokyo Haneda will also benefit from Air India’s codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA), enabling onward connections to several Japanese cities including Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo.

Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal said: “Since Air India’s privatisation, we have significantly grown our network across Southeast Asia and the Far East, having added several new routes, optimised flight schedules to enable convenient cross-continent connections, forged new partnerships with other carriers, and deploying upgraded cabin products progressively.”

He added: “Japan and Vietnam have both emerged as fast-growing destinations for Indian travellers, while India’s economic and commercial ties with both nations continue to deepen and present more opportunities for business and trade on both sides. The launch of these new routes supports this growth and strengthens our presence in the region.”
