Akasa Air and Noida International Airport have announced a strategic partnership to establish the airline’s first dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.
Under the agreement, Akasa Air will develop and operate a state-of-the-art MRO facility within the airport premises. The facility will support a broad spectrum of aircraft maintenance activities, enabling the airline to maintain high standards of operational safety while improving fleet reliability and turnaround efficiency.
The development marks a major milestone for the airline as it continues to scale operations and strengthen its long-term infrastructure in India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
Strategic Expansion for Akasa Air
The MRO facility will play a key role in supporting Akasa Air’s growing Boeing 737 MAX fleet. Since launching commercial operations in 2022, the airline has expanded quickly across India and international routes and has continued inducting new aircraft as part of its aggressive growth plan.
The airline recently inducted additional Boeing 737 MAX aircraft into its fleet this year, reinforcing its commitment to rapid expansion while maintaining a strong focus on operational efficiency and cost control. Establishing an in-house MRO base is expected to reduce maintenance turnaround times and allow better control over technical operations as the fleet continues to grow.
Boost for Noida International Airport
The partnership also highlights the rising strategic importance of Noida International Airport, which is expected to become a major aviation gateway for the Delhi-NCR region.
Significantly, the airport recently received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a key regulatory milestone that clears the way for commercial flight operations in the near future.
The greenfield airport at Jewar is being developed in phases and is designed to handle millions of passengers annually once operations begin, easing congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and creating a new aviation hub in northern India.
Airlines including Akasa Air are already positioning the airport as an important operational base, with long-term plans to expand services from the region.
Strengthening India’s MRO Industry
The announcement comes at a time when India’s aircraft maintenance industry is witnessing renewed momentum.
Recent policy reforms by the Government of India, including measures introduced in Union Budget 2026 to simplify and rationalise the import of aircraft spare parts, are aimed at boosting the country’s MRO ecosystem and reducing dependence on overseas maintenance facilities.
For years, Indian airlines have sent aircraft to countries such as Singapore, the UAE and Sri Lanka for heavy maintenance checks due to cost and regulatory challenges. However, recent policy changes are encouraging airlines and aviation companies to invest in domestic MRO infrastructure.
Industry experts believe India has the potential to become a major global MRO hub in the coming years, supported by its growing aircraft fleet, expanding airport infrastructure and availability of skilled aviation engineers.
Economic and Employment Impact
The planned Akasa Air MRO facility at Noida International Airport is expected to create significant employment opportunities for aircraft engineers, technicians and aviation specialists.
In addition to supporting airline operations, the project is likely to contribute to skill development and technical training in the region, strengthening India’s aviation workforce.
As new airports come online and airlines continue expanding their fleets, investments in maintenance infrastructure are increasingly becoming a key pillar of India’s aviation growth story. The Akasa Air–Noida International Airport partnership is another step toward building a stronger, self-reliant aviation ecosystem in the country.
