In a strategic move, IndiGo Airlines has stepped in to fill the void left by SpiceJet, announcing plans to commence operations on routes previously serviced by its competitor. The decision comes as a boon for travelers seeking connectivity between Chennai and Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (Durgapur Airport), following SpiceJet’s cessation of operations on the route in October 2023.
SpiceJet had been a prominent player on the Chennai to Durgapur route, offering daily flights until its discontinuation last year. However, IndiGo’s entrance into the market is poised to reinvigorate travel options for passengers, with the airline set to operate three times weekly flights between the two cities.
Commencing from May 16, travelers can expect convenient connectivity on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The flight schedule is tailored to suit both business and leisure travelers, with departure from Chennai at 05:45, arriving in Durgapur at 08:25. The return leg departs from Durgapur at 08:55, landing back in Chennai at 11:25.
The introduction of direct flights between Chennai and Durgapur signifies a significant milestone for Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, enhancing its connectivity not only within the region but also nationwide. The airport already boasts links to major metro cities across India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.
