In a significant development, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has expanded its passenger processing capacity, drastically improving the travel experience for thousands of passengers. The recent upgrades have reduced wait times to under a minute, ensuring smoother journeys for travelers.
The airport can now handle approximately 8,000 passengers per hour, a remarkable improvement catering to the growing demand for air travel. This expansion comes at a crucial time as Mumbai witnesses a surge in both domestic and international flights. The increased capacity addresses the pressing need for efficient passenger processing, enhancing the overall travel experience.
State-of-the-art AI-enabled cameras have been deployed throughout the airport to enhance security, monitor passenger flow, and contribute to efficient operations. These cameras use real-time analytics, allowing airport staff to respond promptly to any anomalies or congestion. This technological advancement not only improves security measures but also ensures a more seamless movement of passengers through various airport processes.
CSMIA has embraced the DigiYatra initiative, which aims to create a seamless travel experience using digital technology. Among the 68 entry lanes, 34 are exclusively dedicated to DigiYatra passengers, facilitating swift check-ins, security checks, and boarding processes. This integration significantly reduces the time passengers spend in queues, enhancing their overall airport experience.
Terminal-specific improvements have also been implemented to further streamline operations. In Terminal 1, six dedicated DigiYatra e-gates have been installed, ensuring a hassle-free journey for passengers using this terminal. Additionally, six non-DigiYatra e-gates cater to other travelers, maintaining efficiency across the board. Terminal 2 has seen the installation of 118 new e-gates, strategically placed to streamline security checks. These e-gates reduce bottlenecks and enhance the overall passenger experience, ensuring a smoother flow through the terminal.
