IndiGo, has announced the launch of daily, non-stop flights between Kolkata and Shanghai, strengthening air connectivity between India and China. The new service will commence on 29 March 2026 and will be operated using the Airbus A320 aircraft.

Strengthening Trade and Connectivity
Shanghai, widely recognised as China’s leading global financial hub and innovation centre, becomes a significant addition to IndiGo’s expanding international network. The new route is expected to facilitate growing bilateral trade, particularly with West Bengal witnessing continued export growth to China in FY25–26, including marine products, leather goods, and specialised textiles.
By introducing direct connectivity, IndiGo aims to reduce travel time, improve business mobility, and encourage tourism and cultural exchange between the two nations.
Vinay Malhotra, Global Head of Sales, IndiGo, said, “We are pleased to announce the launch of our new daily, direct connectivity between Kolkata and Shanghai, China, in addition to our flights to Guangzhou. This development underscores our commitment to connecting India to key global destinations. Shanghai is the country’s biggest city, a global financial hub, and famous for its dazzling futuristic skyline complemented with historic architecture. This addition to our network will play an important role in facilitating bilateral trade and is expected to boost tourism and promote greater cultural exchange between the two nations.”
IndiGo currently operates a fleet of over 400 aircraft and runs more than 2,200 daily flights, connecting 95+ domestic and 40+ international destinations. With the addition of Shanghai to its route map, IndiGo continues to strengthen its position as a key player in regional and international connectivity.
