In a significant move to enhance the accessibility of medical examinations for pilots, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced the empanelment of new civil hospitals for conducting DGCA Class 1 Medical Examinations. The newly authorized hospitals, all part of the Apollo Hospitals group, are located in various major cities across India, providing a substantial relief for pilots based in these regions.
The newly empaneled hospitals are:
- Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru
- Apollo Hospitals, Vijay Nagar, Indore
- Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad
- Apollo Hospitals, Rajarhat, Kolkata
- Apollo Hospitals, Lucknow
This expansion means pilots no longer need to travel extensively to undergo their Class 1 medical examinations, which are a crucial requirement for maintaining their commercial pilot licenses. Effective from June 17, 2024, pilots can utilize the facilities at these new locations for their medical assessments.
Class 1 medical certificates are mandatory for commercial pilots, ensuring they meet the rigorous health standards necessary for the safe exercise of their professional duties. The certification process is pivotal for both aspiring and current commercial pilots, who must navigate through the DGCA’s stringent medical requirements.
The inclusion of these hospitals into the DGCA’s network is already reflected on the eGCA platform, the DGCA’s comprehensive e-governance portal. The eGCA handles over 300 services related to civil aviation, streamlining various regulatory and procedural requirements. This enhancement is part of ongoing efforts to improve the ease of doing business within the civil aviation sector.

This development is expected to significantly benefit pilots by reducing the logistical and financial burdens associated with traveling long distances for medical examinations. The move aligns with DGCA’s commitment to fostering a more efficient and pilot-friendly aviation ecosystem in India.
