In a strategic move to bolster its cargo operations, Blue Dart Aviation, a leading cargo airline based in Chennai, India, is reportedly set to acquire two leased aircraft from DHL Aviation, headquartered in the Netherlands. According to sources, the deal is valued at approximately US$4.7 million and is expected to enhance Blue Dart’s capacity and operational capabilities.
Blue Dart Aviation, a subsidiary of Blue Dart Express Limited, has been a key player in the Indian cargo industry since its inception in 1994. The airline commenced operations in 1996 with two Boeing 737-200 freighters and has steadily grown its fleet over the years. Currently, Blue Dart Aviation operates a fleet of 8 aircraft, including 2 Boeing 737-800PCF and 6 757-200PCF. Notably, the airline phased out the Boeing 737-200F from its operations in 2014.
With hubs located in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, Blue Dart Aviation plays a crucial role in connecting major cities across India. The airline is supported by its majority stakeholder, German courier company Deutsche Post, which owns 70% of Blue Dart Aviation through its subsidiary Blue Dart Express.
