In a move to enhance its connectivity in the Indian subcontinent, budget carrier AirAsia has announced Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum, as its ninth direct Indian route. The airline is set to commence flights from Kuala Lumpur to Thiruvananthapuram starting from February 21, 2024. This expansion not only strengthens AirAsia’s presence in India but also marks the carrier’s second direct route to the vibrant state of Kerala.
AirAsia embarked on its journey of linking Malaysia to India in 2008, inaugurating its first route to Tiruchirappalli. Since then, the airline has progressively expanded its footprint, offering a diverse range of direct connections to various Indian cities.
The current network includes six direct routes to South Indian cities via AirAsia Malaysia (AK) – Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Additionally, AirAsia operates two direct routes to Northern India – Amritsar and New Delhi, facilitated by AirAsia X (D7).
The addition of Thiruvananthapuram to AirAsia’s network underscores the airline’s commitment to providing affordable and convenient travel options to passengers in the region. Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, is known for its rich cultural heritage, pristine beaches, and historic landmarks, making it an attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers.
